Growing body part
Is there anything to ameliorate the life of those who were born with the birth defect or who lost body part by accident? Most people thought, what is lost is lost — or is it?
This lab which is situated at University College London helps people to recover some body parts by growing new ones. Professor at this university Alex Seifalian was launched a new lab called “the human body parts store”.
The lab creates body parts with synthetic materials and a patient’s stem cells. It is like making a cake, we just use a different kind of oven said Seifalian. The lab builds a platform of the required part of the body with a porous nanocomposite material which is patented by the team, puts it in a bioreactor with some of the bone marrow of the patient the cells of the patient cover the scaffold and load up its many holes so at the end it becomes the patient’s own
It is not at all clear to me how new kind of technologies will make it as natural as it was. Creating working organ hinges or cells and keep them alive, which have been proven to be the biggest challenge. I think it will take many years before taking stands on the controversial issue
At the Seifalian’s lab, for example 56-year – old man whose nose was removed during cancer therapy in this way scientists decided to create the nose which should have been forming in glass vessel for around four weeks the lab-grown nose ingrained in the surface of man’s hand, later doctor will move it on to his injured area of face.
In my opinion, the first steps in this sphere have already been started by this Professor with the recreating of a human nose, if rebuilding organs become a reality Will it changes the world of medicine?
