The school governors are responsible for promoting high standards within the achievement in schools and are accountable for establishing the main aims within the schools policies and manage the role of the head teacher and the school improvement strategy, which includes supporting budgets and staffing. They also evaluate the work of the head teacher to see what effectiveness is pushed through the school improvement strategy. Governors work in a team to gain knowledge of the schools community and do so by making visits and having discussions in their team about how well a school is doing but this is organised by the Chair of the governing body.
Senior management team
This usually consists of the Head teacher and deputy head, however depending on the size of the school the team could be bigger and have a variation of leaders, for example Bodmin College has the Principal and ten other variations of vice/assistant principals and all who also are head of departments or heads of years. This team must at all times be aware of the current situations going on within their school and bring forward ideas in keeping the way things are run relevant and that both the staff and students can support the idea.
Other statutory roles e.g. SENCO
These staff members take control of day-to-day tasks that operate the SEN policy and the co-ordination of allowing each child with special educational needs to express themselves and get the help they desire and work closely with staff, parents/carers and outside agencies that may come in contact with the school. The also ensure that staff members are up to date on how to work with students that may have special educational needs and what the teacher can do to help them if by chance there isn’t a learning support worker around.
Teachers have the everyday task of interacting with their students and planning their lesson on what they’re learning and why. They have to take into account that students must have homework and/or assignments and that the information they deliver is correct and within the time. Not only are they there to do the teaching and lesson side of thing, they are there to not judge their students and be there with an open mind.
This would cover the staff that are there to work alongside teachers and councillors and administrators. A lot of the time you’ll find the learning support staff are hired due to the students who need constant help in lessons due to special educational needs. They are usually overseen directly by teachers, appointed their tasks for that lesson and usually have a wide range of skills in different subjects allowing them to be more versatile. This team of support staff may also cover healthcare workers/first aiders.
