Swami Satchidananda once said that ”If you do not pour water on your plant, what will happen? It will slowly wither and die. Our habits will also slowly wither and die away if we do not give them an opportunity to manifest. You need not fight to stop a habit. Just don’t give it an opportunity to repeat itself. (2002). Dickson’s. (2013) mentioned that Wikipedia describes a bad habit as: a negative behaviour pattern. In life we all develop either good or bad habits as we mature, most times we are chained with bad habits that we are unable to change. In my case my habit is skipping breakfast. Breakfast is one of the most vital meals for of the day, it gives you strength, helps you to concentrate and may even help you maintain a healthy weight. Robert .A. Heinlein quoted “that one should not attend even the end of the world without a good breakfast”. In this research paper I will be discovering the effects that skipping breakfast can have on me and how I can possible break that habit.
Breakfast brings a fresh start to a day. Many people choose not to eat breakfast inorder to lose weight.Howeverl, I believe that skipping breakfast causes to many health risks such as high blood pressure, overweight, risk of cancer and an unhealthy assortment of blood-fats. Although skipping one day breakfast can have little effect on an individual continuous skipping can cause an effect. When I skip breakfast I continually feel deprived of energy, but sometimes I feel no harm at all. Most times I skip breakfast is because I have no appetite in the mornings, laziness and sometimes I may run out of time to prepare something. Skipping breakfast is a very bad habit which can affect someones health hence the reason my urge to change that habit.
Eating breakfast has many benefits. It helps improved concentration and performance in the classroom or the boardroom. I am a victim of lack of concentration and I strictly believe that skipping breakfast is the reason for that. It also provides us with more strength and endurance to engage in physical activities.
The energy we need is obtained after we have breakfast, therefore we have more strength throughout the whole morning .we should be aware of the importance of breakfast. A 16 year research from Harvard investigated into approximately 30000 subjects show that individuals who skip breakfast are 21% more likely to have type 2 diabetes than those who eat breakfast regularly (may 24,2012)
Some are trying to cut calories, some are too busy during the morning rush, and others say they just don’t feel hungry and for me am too lazy to do it. but despite some reports, the research overwhelmingly shows that eating a good breakfast is an important part of a healthy lifestyle.
when you skip meals, your body stops working as fast in order to conserve fuel. “The body will slow its basal metabolic rate to compensate for calorie restriction,” Dr. Gastelum says. Plus, in the morning your metabolism has already been slow during sleep. “Prolonged fasting will further reduce the body’s willingness to burn calories and impact the amount of fat tissue that’s lost.” skipping breakfast is linked to weight gain because there is less energy for working out. Whe one skip breakfast , they may nit have energy to perform actitvites, so they would perform less activites. Plus, once you finish a morning workout you’ll need to eat to refuel—so to get through the morning with a workout and no breakfast will leave you extra drained. As stated by tina donvito information from the University of Wisconsin says that breakfast should give you 25 percent of your daily energy, including high fibre and protein for fuel.
