Technology no doubt is driving development across the globe and the latest trend is the internet of things (IoT) which seeks to connect billions of people and device to the internet. Global attention is beginning to shift to the internet of things for smart city development in virtually all areas of human endeavors such as health care system, transportation, sport, telecoms, and infrastructural development among others. With the boost of Mobil subscribers in Africa with average subscription rate at 71% currently and expected to reach 97% by 2020, there is no doubt that Africa is ready to launch into the age of internet of things and gradually create her own smart cities which will make life better, improve the performance and quality of urban service, reduce cost, improve decision making by providing data based analytic assessment and understanding of business environment, and perhaps, more importantly, engage citizens more actively and efficiently.
